- It must be laid on a flat surface such as a table, bed, etc. (The measurements will not be correct if the garment is not completely extended)
- Use a tape measure it can be a fabric or plastic tape (like those used by tailors and dressmakers)
- Write down your measurements.
Sleeve length
- Place the garment on a flat surface, it has to be completely extended.
- Measure the whole length of the sleeve as shown in the picture.
- Measure the distance between the seam where it is joined to the shoulder and the desired position of the cuffs. This measurement must be taken in a straight line.
Shoulder Width
- Place the garment on a flat surface, it has to be completely extended.
- Measure the distance across the shoulder as shown in the picture. The measurement should be taken between the shoulder seams.
Chest width
- Place the garment on a flat surface, it has to be completely extended.
- Measure the chest width between the seams side to side of the garment, as shown in the picture.
Waist width
- Place the garment on a flat surface, it has to be completely extended.
- The natural waist is where this part of the body is narrowest, usually one or two inches above the navel.
Body Length
- Place the garment on a flat surface, it has to be completely extended.
- The distance is measured between the shoulder seam, where it join the collar and the waist, as shown in the picture.
